Big things are happening at Greenwood Plastics Industries! We have expanded our production floor line-up to include a MAAC automatic four station double oven rotary thermoforming machine.
With the control needed to handle our proprietary processes and the ability to produce components with improved tolerances and accuracy, the new thermoformer has taken our production capabilities to the next level.
Partnering with the Best

GPI made the decision to partner with MAAC Machinery because they have an exceptional reputation for quality and are the largest manufacturer dedicated solely to sheet fed thermoforming equipment.
Led by an expert MAAC service technician, the GPI team along with Schomburg & Schomburg Construction, INC. had our top-of-the-line machine completely installed and in operation in just 8 short days. The tech also thoroughly trained our management team and operators on all functionalities of the thermoformer.
A Cut Above the Rest

The addition of the new machine (nicknamed Big Betty) is setting GPI apart from the competition. MAAC thermoformers are known for their versatility, refined designs, and sophisticated technology.
Our lead design engineer worked closely with MAAC to customize the heating zones for optimal temperature control. This has allowed for more precise heating and enabled us to achieve consistent material distributions.
With a maximum mold size of 96” x 48” and a maximum clamp frame opening of 98” x 50”, our machine also boasts an exclusive PLC controller that provides ten completely automatic forming techniques.
Some of the other advanced features the thermoformer is equipped with include unlimited storage of job files, platen/jog/demold function, and an integrated interment modem with remote programming and support.
Safety Above All Else

Safety has always been, and always will be, GPI’s number one priority.
“The new four-station rotary machine brings a new level of safety and excitement to our plant floor. Anytime you bring in new equipment for your employees, it really shows your appreciation for them, and the hard work they put in every day”, says Production Supervisor Austin Buckley.
Our management team worked closely with MAAC’s application engineering staff to ensure the machine was equipped with the latest safety features.
Here is a snapshot of its security mechanisms:
- Lower oven flame-retardant shield: Prevents fire and element damage if a sheet were to break past the safety eye. During E-stop conditions, the shield will automatically extend over the lower oven and catch the thermoplastic material.
- Load station light curtain: Sounds alarm and brings the machine’s rotation to a halt if someone attempts to pass through the curtain.
- Oven wall window and light: Provides better viewing of the plastic sheeting as it softens and begins to sag.
Looking Ahead

With 2023 just around the corner, GPI stands committed to completing jobs with the highest degree of automation and efficiency.
And as our company continues to experience growth, we will make ongoing strategic capital investments to meet our customer’s evolving needs.
